For all you wondering what a "hinterland" is, I am too. However, I'm told that it means "rainforesty hills around the beach". You can find a more in-depth definition HERE
Anyways, we went away to the mountains about an hour or so north of where we live to a little cabin in the grassy woods. Before we got to the cabin, we stopped off in a little town called Eumundi to check out their Saturday markets. The markets were amazing and a must see if you're ever passing through the area on a Wednesday or Saturday. Live music, food (i had a churro!), fresh fruits and veggies, and tons of crafty stuff.
After the markets, we made the rest of the trip through dirt roads, up massive sketchy hills, and finally got to our little cabin. The cabin was really cute and the best part about it is it was pet friendly! (most places here somewhat laugh at you if you ask to bring your pet... we're not in SoCal anymore..). So Jackson, Dan and I drove up to our little cottage that sat at the base of some walking trails and right next to a horse pen, which Jackson decided he was afraid of.
outside view of the cottage
inside the cottage was small kitchen, living space, bedroom and bathroom. perfect for the three of us
When we got the cottage, we settled in and had a little picnic lunch that I had packed. After we ate we went on a little adventure to explore the wilderness around us.
I've never walked through the hinterland before, and it was pretty crazy. There weren't dirt paths made by boy scouts and feet that had passed through for years like the trails at home, there were freshly mowed grass trails that took you through the fields of grass and through the hills. It was really cool and something I've never seen. Jackson was in heaven.
After our long walk, we went back to the cottage and settled in for the night. We played a nice game of scrabble, grilled some steak on the BBQ and then watched ET. Which I haven't seen since I was a kid. Truth be told I fell asleep half way through, but we finished it in the morning so I could see how it ended.
In the morning we packed up and headed back down to our side of the world. Jackson was sad to go, but made sure he took in all the fresh air he could
Overall it was a great overnight escape. Much recommended if you're ever in the area.
Until next time..
